Volucra in Rosso Levanto
Volucra in Rosso Levanto is a is a contemporary take on the classical form of vessels of antiquity. It has been hand painted in a rich faux Rosso Levanto marble finish. The name 'Volucra' refers to the latin term for flying or winged creatures, which reflects the angled, wing like shape of the vertical handles.
This vessel is thoughtfully handcrafted from recycled cardboard and paper, transforming everyday waste into an enduring sculptural artwork. From breaking down cardboard and paper into a pulp, mixing the pulp with binders, moulding form, sanding, and painting, this piece took about 12 hours to create. The faux rosso levanto paint finish was achieved by layering multiple layers of transparent paint washes to emulate the depth of real marble. This vessel reflects a commitment to slow sustainable design.
