Cardcrete Relief Wall Sculpture Artwork
Artwork Details
Citroseae is a contemporary sculptural figurative portrait wall artwork handmade from recycled cardboard and paper pulp using a sustainable material called Cardcrete developed by the artist. Inspired by ancient fresco surfaces, the piece explores texture, erosion and architectural relief.
The work begins with a hand-built cardboard armature, which forms both the flat surface and the three-dimensional raised outer frame. This structure is then coated in my Cardcrete medium, a material made with 100% recycled cardboard made from scratch, creating a solid, textural base that has the feel of sculpted or built material rather than canvas.
Embedded into the frame are rough and smooth rose quartz and citrine crystals. Rose quartz is traditionally associated with love, compassion, and emotional healing, symbolising softness, connection, and the opening of the heart. Citrine is linked to clarity, abundance, and vitality, carrying solar energy that encourages confidence, creativity, and warmth. Together, rose quartz and citrine are often understood as a balance between tenderness and strength. The name 'Citrosēaé' references both the citrine and rose elements.
