Stamnos in Green Onyx
Stamnos in Green Onyx is a contemporary take on the classical form of vessels of antiquity. It has been hand painted in a faux Green Onyx marble finish. The name 'Stamnos' is a type of ancient Greek vessel characterised by a wide mouth and two horizontal handles. The shape of this vessel was inspired by vases I saw in museums throughout Italy.
This vessel is thoughtfully handcrafted from recycled cardboard and paper, transforming everyday waste into an enduring sculptural artwork. From breaking down cardboard and paper into a pulp, mixing the pulp with binders, moulding form, sanding, and painting, this piece took about 12 hours to create. The faux green onyx paint finish was achieved by layering multiple layers of transparent washes to emulate the transparency and depth of real onyx. This vessel reflects a commitment to slow sustainable design.
