The swans function as both structure and symbol, referencing Arcadia as an idealised landscape shaped by nature and mythology. In Greek mythology, swans are associated with Apollo and are linked to themes of beauty, prophecy, and the connection between mortal and divine realms. Their mirrored arrangement suggests contrast and balance. The vessel’s worn surface and sgraffito technique expose underlying layers, giving it the appearance of an aged object and reinforcing themes of time, material change, and the persistence of myth.

This vessel is thoughtfully handcrafted from recycled cardboard and paper, transforming everyday waste into an enduring sculptural artwork. From breaking down cardboard and paper into a pulp, mixing the pulp with binders, moulding form and sanding, this piece has been uniquely built by Penny, and painted by Emilie. This vessel reflects a commitment to slow sustainable design.

Artwork Details

Medium: Cardcrete (recycled cardboard, paper, binders)

Dimensions - 360mm high, 300mm wide, 250mm deep

Artist - Penny Brooshooft & Emilie Maguin

Shipping - Shipping is free within Australia.
